This week and next marks the dramatic conclusion of the Year 2020 as planetary markers drop into place, one after another, like so many cosmic tumblers, unlocking the vault of heaven. What lies ahead is difficult to assess, as with any period of multi-layered geocosmic complexity, some features are fleeting while others are more durable. Trying to make sense of all of this is problematic on a number of levels, but I will do my best to lay things out.
Chiron Stationary Direct
The current forecast period is overshadowed by Chiron, the Wounded Healer archetype stationary direct on Tuesday in early Aries (04Ari46) which is undoubtedly associated with Covid-19, the sky-rocketing infection rate and the confusing promise of new vaccines created to fight it. Even so, I believe this amplified Chironic symbolism points to more very dark developments with regard to the pandemic and its victims, dominating this coming week and into January. This is obviously a time for all of us to double-down on protecting ourselves, our families, friends and communities.
Treachery?
Typically it’s just a fuzzy blip on the radar of rational thinking, but Sunday’s Mercury-Neptune square appears to be a bit more consequential, not only with regard to news (Mercury) pertaining to the pandemic (Neptune), but also the Liar-in-Chief. This potentially delusional aspect takes place ahead of Monday’s meeting of the Electoral College, occurring against the backdrop of a Total Solar Eclipse, which, in and of itself, is a very big deal. Yet with the eclipse falling on Trump’s natal eclipsed Moon in Sagittarius, I’m looking to this Mercury-Neptune aspect with the potential of a Grand Deception, the last desperate gasp in the run-up to Monday’s meeting of electors. The upside is that any further attempts to fraudulently manipulate (Neptune) the democratic process will be immediately exposed (Mercury).
A Total Solar Eclipse
In many ways, the Sagittarius New Moon/Total Solar Eclipse is a lit fuse, setting into motion developments leading to the Grand Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn on Dec. 21, bringing to a close the 200-year period of our linear, materialistic world-view. Eclipses are often seen as cosmic wild-cards, throwing the regular order of things into chaos while setting things into motion that often take months or years to completely unfold.
With this eclipse leaving its mark in the late degrees of Sagittarius (23Sag08) on Monday at 11:17 am (Eastern), its focus tends to be on matters involving legislation, courts, partisan politics, ideological foundations and matters of a constitutional nature; formal events such as the meeting of the Electoral College. A solar eclipse taking place in this sign on this day lends considerable gravity to the consequences of the ballots being cast for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. It’s also important to consider that we won’t see the tangible results of the Electoral College until the ballots are formally opened and read by Mike Pence to Congress on Jan. 6.
Looking over the chart for this eclipse, a number of things stand-out that point to some form of commotion, while the eclipse itself, falling as it does at the Moon’s South Node, suggesting changes in the way we typically view things through the lens of the past. Mercury is within range of the eclipsed Sun while forming a tense, square aspect to Mars, suggesting the potential for fighting words, not only at this time, but in the months ahead. With Mars moving into a conjunction with the distant planet, Eris, we should expect to see continued dissonance, conflict and potential violence. We might also find other developments coming to our attention on Wednesday when Mercury crosses the potent Eclipse Point, triggering a major news and information dump.
In relation to what I mentioned above, this solar eclipse falls on the Total Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius embedded in Trump’s natal chart (a sign of an eventful life) which can only tell us that this eclipse and its aftermath will be of major consequence to him. Another marker in the eclipse chart sees the same degrees of Trump’s boisterous Leo Ascendant and Regulus (Star of Kings) occupying the location of enemies in this chart. How it manifests is only difficult to make out if we ignore what we’ve already seen far too much of. Besides some decisive development associated with this eclipse I’ll save my speculations as to what this could mean for later, but I suspect it involves his legal exposure after Jan. 20.
As far as actually witnessing the Total Solar Eclipse, we’d need to be located near the southern tip of South America to watch this spectacle; even so, it seems likely that we’ll be noticing it in other ways. On a personal scale of expression, this eclipse marks a time of powerful new beginnings, particularly in how we show up for life and how we walk our talk. Expansive new insights and downloads of wisdom are also possible, not only on Monday, but over the course of the next two weeks. Whatever is going on, personally or collectively, the fuse has been lit.
Saturn Enters Aquarius
The ringed, gas-giant Saturn is the planet associated with structure, responsibility, limitation, restriction, maturity, accountability, consequence and impasse. It has occupied Capricorn for the past 2.5 years except for its brief foray into the social sign of Aquarius last spring (March 21 - July 1), marking a time of the first lockdown in response to the pandemic. In fact, it marked a remarkable time when human activity on Planet Earth came to an abrupt standstill while terms like social (Aquarius) distancing (Saturn) found a place in our lexicon.
Saturn’s three-month visit to Aquarius last spring also marked a time when an outbreak of social unrest punctured the quarantine bubble with the deaths of too many black lives at the hands of the police impelling throngs of individuals taking to the streets in protest despite the dangers of Covid-19. Social life tried to get back to a semblance of “normal” once Saturn returned to the sure-footed sign of Capricorn last summer although that has resulted in the situation we’re in now with the pandemic exceeding the numbers we saw back in April.
This coming Thursday sees Saturn returning to Aquarius where it will remain until March 2023, although it remains to be seen whether it will coincide with the same locked-downs and uprisings we saw earlier this year. It might be augmented by the fact that expansive Jupiter will accompany Saturn in Aquarius at first, suggesting the possibility of breakthroughs if given a chance. Given the current picture, it's difficult to predict how Saturn’s stay in Aquarius will manifest, although the amount of Saturnian resistance to social responsibility, seen by some as an infringement of individual liberties, may lead to even more death and misery than we’ve seen thus far. Saturn in Aquarius might also point to the continued stonewalling of the Republican-led Senate to any meaningful assistance to Americans during their time of need. Due to sheer desperation, societal breakdown could very well be how Saturn in Aquarius manifests. Let’s hope it’s more constructive.
Jupiter Enters Aquarius
On Saturday, Dec. 19, just two days after Saturn enters Aquarius, faster-moving Jupiter follows suit, taking leave of Capricorn as it crosses the cusp in Aquarius enroute to its union with Saturn on Dec. 21, forming the Great Conjunction. Jupiter was last in Aquarius 2008-2009, overseeing the Great Recession and the election of Barack Obama.
Unlike dour Saturn, Jupiter represents expansion, youthful optimism, abundance and opportunity. Its dark side tends to find expression through arrogance, hubris, carelessness, exaggeration, religious and political intolerance. Jupiter in Aquarius could point to finding greater freedom and a more equitable social contract although the presence of conservative Saturn in Aquarius could strangle such notions in the crib. New approaches to the economic woes brought on by the pandemic could birth innovative industries and original business models out of necessity. There’s also a danger that the tribal leanings associated with Jupiter in Aquarius could bring even greater polarity to the social scene than we’re seeing already although I’m not sure if that’s possible.
Jupiter’s swift motion will see it occupy Aquarius before crossing into Pisces from mid-May to late July before returning to Aquarius where it will remain until the very end of 2021. It could be during Jupiter’s short visit to Pisces that we embrace a more compassionate response to our problems, perhaps simply because we have no other option while realizing, at last, that we’re all in this together.
Skies Above
Finally, on a lighter note, one of the best meteor showers of the year peaks Sunday and Monday night toward dawn as the Geminids scratch the sky. Amid the stress and uncertainty, the night sky is currently offering some of the best visuals in ages. Given clear skies, get out just after sunset and look to the Southeastern horizon to watch Jupiter and Saturn move closer and closer to one another before they make their closest conjunction in 800 years on the Winter Solstice. This will be an even more spectacular sight on Wednesday night when the thin, Crescent Moon pays these two a visit in what looks to be a cosmic benediction.
Lunar Gardening Report
Planting and feeding aren’t part of the equation Sunday and Monday with the New Moon Solar Eclipse messing with the geomagnetic field while occupying the fire sign of Sagittarius. Tuesday and Wednesday are better days for most forms of planting, transplanting, sprouting and fertilizing as the Moon takes on light in Capricorn; ideal for root crops. Thursday and Friday are poor days to do much in the way of planting with the Moon occupying agriculturally-sterile Aquarius, so sticking to general maintenance is the way to go. Saturday and Sunday are by far the best days of the lot for anything involving planting, fertilizing and cutting to encourage growth when the waxing Moon takes the plunge into the fertile waters of Pisces.
Daily Forecast (For all signs)
(Times are Eastern Standard/-0500UTC)
Sunday, Dec. 13: Big, expansive energies are afoot today with the deeply-waning Moon in Sagittarius closing a solar-lunar cycle ahead of tomorrow’s New Moon/Solar Eclipse also occurring in Sagittarius. Opportunity is possible if we show up at the right time and the right place; but even so, closely scrutinize anything that looks too good to be true. The darkened Sag Moon speaks of endings while also providing a backdrop for a more troubling and potentially confusing aspect that may be erasing boundaries and promoting delusional thinking (Mercury square Neptune). Considering the reality disconnect already finding purchase in a significant segment of the population, I really don’t know what to make of this in clear terms. As we’re now entering a time of an unprecedented energy shift, the best I can suggest is to ground and center yourself in the face of the growing weirdness. With the Geminid Meteor peaking tonight and tomorrow morning, get outside and place your attention on the wonder of the star-spangled sky.
Monday, Dec. 14: Total Solar Eclipse. The transition of one cycle into another is the dominant theme right now as indicators point to a sharp demarcation, described by the Sagittarius New Moon/Total Solar Eclipse becoming exact at 11:17am in the late degrees of Sagittarius (23Sag08). Powerful new energies germinate, setting-off a time of expansive change and awareness even as the past falls away while remnants continue to sputter for months to come. Sagittarius is closely associated with religion, courts, legislation, law-enforcement and ideologies, so anything along these lines that are set into motion now should find full expression by the end of the month, if not beyond. With the Electoral College being seated today, we can see where this might be headed, especially given the fact that this eclipse falls across Trump’s natal lunar eclipse; decisive actions taking place right now can’t be undone. Individually, this is a time to stake your claim, declare your truth and walk your talk. The Moon’s entrance into Capricorn later tonight might help stabilize the energies enough to allow us to drop off to sleep.
Tuesday, Dec. 15: Chiron Direct. The “Wounded Healer” archetype stations direct today in the early degrees of Aries (04Ari46), amplifying its qualities with a focus undoubtedly centered on Covid-19, its vaccine and the consequences of gatherings three weeks ago. The Capricorn Moon is hopefully providing a more grounded and delineated tone to the growing sense of uncertainty accompanying the current reality shift. Realistic assessments are possible this morning, particularly where relationships and finance are concerned (Venus sextile Saturn). As this the final planetary aspect being made to Saturn while it occupies Capricorn, there’s an important message focused on the consequences of desires and choices. Later tonight sees Venus exit Scorpio for Sagittarius, where the concept of social values comes to the foreground for good or ill over the coming month.
Wednesday, Dec. 16: Mercury crosses and triggers the still-hot location of Monday’s eclipse (23Sat08), suggesting major news and information with regard to whatever came to light at the time of the eclipse (Electoral College, Trump?). Late morning shows an increase in energy and a default into angry expressions in the event of frustrations or blockages while midafternoon continues to place an emphasis on the information sphere. Given clear skies, look for the thin Crescent Moon posing with the historic, Jupiter-Saturn conjunction on the cusp of Aquarius.
Thursday, Dec. 17: This is where things really start getting interesting. Saturn crosses the cusp into Aquarius at 12:04 am, the sign it briefly occupied last spring. Thirty minutes later, the Crescent Moon joins Jupiter at the back door of Capricorn before entering Aquarius one hour later and then finally conjuncts Saturn one minute later, locking-down the frequency of Air where the general tone grows extremely mental. The Aquarius Moon will continue to aspect other planets as the day progresses with an unusual twist coming to our attention in the early afternoon.
Friday, Dec. 18: For the first time in five days, we take a moment to catch our collective breath with only one lunar aspect taking place today as the Moon continues to increase in light in Aquarius, the main stage. Energy levels are tolerably high without excess during the late afternoon hours while we would be better off reflecting on recent developments than acting upon any of them.
Saturday, Dec. 19: The Moon enters Pisces at sunrise, just before Pisces’ ruler, Jupiter follows Saturn over the cusp into Aquarius, marking a period of expansive social expression, bearing the sword of Justice. With Jupiter moving into a tighter conjunction with Saturn ahead of Monday’s exact union, it’s too early to outpicture how Jupiter or Saturn will find expression in Aquarius over the short term even though the long-term ramifications are significant. News and information regarding the pandemic continue to increase in volume with the potential for breakthroughs and breakdowns in this department (Mercury trine Chiron). From an esoteric perspective, an extremely important geocosmic signature takes place tonight when Mercury aligns with the far side of the Sun while simultaneously aligned to Galactic Center (Earth-Sun-Mercury-GC) at 10:26 pm. This is a communication channel opening to what the Mayan's call Hunab-Ku, the sacred heart of the galaxy and a direct connection to Source where we download instructions ahead of the Great Chronocrator opening a cycle in the element of air for the first time in 800 years. This is the time to tune the shortwave radio of our hearts to higher frequencies, finding clear reception against the noise of one megacycle ending and a new one prepared to open at the Winter Solstice. Om Namaha Shiva!
