Well, dear reader, we knew it was going to come to this: the delays, the obstinate refusal to accept defeat by tweeting baseless claims of voter fraud and the chorus of reptilian voices croaking support for the embarrassment that is Donald Trump. Such stupidity would be laughable if it weren’t for the exponential explosion of Covid-19 cases in the U.S. (approaching 200,000 per day!) as well as the national security threat posed by the stubborn refusal to share intelligence with the incoming President-elect. It’s been suggested that the reason for the foot-dragging on releasing intelligence briefings might stem from the damning information contained in these reports that might make Trump look bad, as if that’s something he needs to worry about this late in the game.
I’m looking forward to the day that this historical anomaly is no longer in my face, on my feed, or the main focus of astrological analysis; yet like any slow-motion trainwreck, it’s nearly impossible to look away for more than a day. That said, the drama that is the Donald Trump Administration is breathing its final, wheezing gasps as it scrambles to implement its scorched-earth policies against the incoming Biden Administration and the American people he swore an oath to protect. I’m heartened by the fact that we’re already seeing what a real president is capable of doing in the face of manufactured resistance and the scourge of a pandemic, burning through the population at an exponential rate.
A New Cycle Commences
From an astrological perspective, there are a number of notable developments which, taken together, appear to coincide with the demise of the Trumpian narrative that is beginning to weaken in the face of reality. This past Thursday saw the completion of a 13-year Jupiter-Pluto cycle and the beginning of a new one, suggesting a shift in the plutocratic power-base and political manipulations that have dominated since 2008. Of course, having said that, this development won't become entirely noticeable for another three years when the Jupiter-Pluto cycle enters its First Quarter Phase. Whether it will be replaced by a new order or simply shuffled around into a new iteration still remains to be seen.
The Mars Factor
On Friday, Mars ended its lengthy, nine-week retrograde in Aries, marking a sea-change in how outwardly-directed energy finds expression. Fortunately, the Mars station hasn’t so far coincided with any outbreaks of violence aside from the case of massive Covid infections sweeping through the population. I’m hoping that once Mars moves off its station (showing signs of forward movement) this week, we’ll see greater efforts to contain this virus until safe, viable vaccines come online in the spring. That’s the best case scenario while we might still see an escalation of radical, right-wing violence even as Trump fights to remain relevant, but for now, anything else is mere speculation. I don’t think we’ll find a safe harbor until Mars exits its retrograde shadow in January and a new administration takes the helm.
Eclipse Window Opens
At the time of this writing, the Moon is in its darkest phase ahead of Saturday night’s New Moon, opening a potent new cycle that contains two significant eclipses. The first eclipse will take place on Nov. 30 with a Full Moon/Partial Lunar Eclipse occurring in early Gemini, making a significant impact on the charts of the United States and the Republican Party, highlighting unexpected developments and potential turmoil.
Of even greater magnitude is the Sagittarius New Moon/Total Solar Eclipse, taking place on Dec. 14 - the same day the Electoral College convenes to officially certify Joe Biden as President of the United States. Keep in mind that eclipses, particularly potent solar eclipses, often signify a cosmic wild-card and disruptive events which often catch us off-guard. The fact that the solar eclipse falls across Donald Trump’s natal lunar eclipse is more than coincidence, so we should expect something of great significance occurring in this department.
If I were to speculate, it would be that instead of conceding (admitting he’s a loser) in the face of the final straw of the Electoral College, he will resign in order to engineer a pardon for high crimes and potential treason. My other guess would be that Trump continues to stubbornly resist in spite of it all, clearly endangering the country only to be forcibly removed by way of the 25th Amendment. But hey, this guy has been so utterly unpredictable over the past four years I’m probably off by a mile, but I still insist that something major is coming down the pike for our soon-to-be-evicted Resident before the end of the year.
Mercury’s Redundancy Ends
Aside from emerging out from under the Mars station and the Scorpio New Moon, there are only a few blips on this week’s radar. Of note, Mercury forms its third and final opposition to Uranus, denoting the potential for unexpected, surprising or explosive news; discoveries or revelations; revolutions or uprisings. Due to Mercury’s recent retrograde (Oct. 13 - Nov. 3), this same opposition to Uranus took place on Oct. 7 and Oct. 19 with the first being a standout in the wake of the Rose Garden Superspreader Event, Trump’s infectious return from the hospital, and the Vice Presidential Debate that was won by a housefly.
On Thursday, Mercury will exit its retrograde shadow, breaking new ground in the information sphere for the first time since Sept. 23. This is to say that the ongoing, redundant narrative (Mercury) we’ve been immersed in for the past seven weeks is coming to an end and hopefully bringing with it a change of subject. An outside possibility would be that Mercury, emerging from its retrograde shadow, indicates the log-jam blocking Biden receiving intelligence reports (Mercury in Scorpio) and his presidential transition team from getting to work will come to an end. We can only hope.
Lunar Gardening Report
Sunday’s New Moon marks the beginning of a new solar-lunar cycle while the best days for sprouting, planting, transplanting, repotting and fertilizing won’t roll around until Tuesday afternoon through mid-afternoon Thursday when the Moon occupies Capricorn. Most everything else is poor for such activities while some of the very best planting days won’t arrive until Nov. 22 when the waxing Moon occupies Pisces.
Daily Forecast (For all signs)
(Times are Eastern Standard/-0500UTC)
Sunday, Nov. 15: We’re still under the influence of the New Moon that became exact at 12:07 am in the late degrees of Scorpio (23Sco18), increasing emotional intensity levels which have been in place since Thursday’s Jupiter-Pluto conjunction and Mars’ direct station on Friday. Something deep within the shadows is stirring at this time while we’re encouraged to hold off from making major movements until tomorrow when the Moon exits the Sun’s combustion zone. Also watch for the Moon VOC in Scorpio until 10:47 am when the Moon enters Sagittarius and we start experiencing upbeat, optimistic energies. Passion, sexuality and compulsive desires could find expression during the afternoon hours while there’s a tendency to go overboard, particularly when it comes to spending later tonight (Venus square Pluto-Jupiter).
Monday, Nov. 16: New initiatives, plans and projects get a strong boost as the Moon takes on light in Sagittarius along with an surge of fresh energy during the late morning hours. This afternoon lends itself to daydreams and flights of imagination, but not so much for clarity, hard facts or truth-telling while the Moon engages Neptune.
Tuesday, Nov. 17: Sudden news, explosive revelations or discoveries are possible today as Mercury makes the last of three oppositions to Uranus, possibly echoing similar themes in place back on Oct. 7 and Oct. 19. Whatever it is, the very nature of this contact is highly unpredictable, unstable and astounding, particularly in the realm of the Media. Watch for a shift in the background tone when the waxing Crescent Moon enters Capricorn at 11:35 am when things grow more serious; an ideal time for making important decisions and/or focusing on greater levels of personal productivity.
Wednesday, Nov. 18: Besides the potential for a sharp spike in energy or a flash of anger in the early afternoon, there is little to report today. Movies, music, fiction books and cocktails are favored shortly after sunset while a more sober, stable, down-to-earth vibe permeates the late night hours (Sun sextile Saturn).
Thursday, Nov. 19: Mercury exits the retrograde shadow it's been pacing over since Sept. 23, breaking new territory for the first time in nearly two months with new information, fresh news and a positive sense of expectation. Even so, we may need to face some kind of existential challenge or unpleasantness this morning with an aspect that often coincides with dark tidings that point to the need for accountability (Venus square Saturn). Differences in opinion, tastes or values make themselves known while we’re asked to take responsibility for our choices at this time. The Capricorn Moon will go VOC at 11:30 am, remaining void until it enters the rarified airs of Aquarius at 3:25 pm where objective thinking and emotional detachment arrive, just in the nick of time.
Friday, Nov. 20: On this final day of solar Scorpio we might experience greater unpredictability in the early morning; some form of delay midafternoon, followed by a second wind in the early evening. It would be best to take care of any critical business today before the Moon enters an extended, 27-hour VOC in Aquarius at 7:50 pm, remaining void until tomorrow night.
Saturday, Nov. 21: With the Moon VOC until entering Pisces at 11:06 pm, all bets are off on agreements, purchases and major decisions today while safe social engagements are favored. Venus exits her domain in Libra for the lusty, passionate waters of Scorpio where she’ll remain until Dec.15, placing a strong emphasis on debts, shared resources and compulsive desires. The Sun commences its annual visit to festive Sagittarius today at 3:40 pm, marking the beginning of the ho-ho-holiday season and the final countdown to the Winter Solstice, one month from today. Happy Birthday, Sagittarians! Happy Holidays, everybody!
