Stepping across the threshold into April and the Gateway to Spring in the Northern Hemisphere, we revisit the moveable feast of Easter which, beyond its often literal interpretation, we find the archetypal symbolism of rebirth and restoration in the wake of winter’s darkness. At a time when the world around us appears to be falling into ignorance and fear along with the growing sense that evil is gaining ascendancy, we need to consider that what we’re witnessing is merely a shadow being projected by the ever-increasing light of our collective awakening. The brighter the light, the deeper the shadow.
This isn’t to say that evil and ignorance don’t exist in the world, just that we find ourselves becoming a bit too focused on this aspect, as if by habit, and by doing so, giving in to the fear that feeds the darkness even as we ignore the fact that the days are growing brighter as we take another step along the path that leads to the Summer Solstice.
Astrological indicators continue to speak to the fact that a reckoning is coming in the near future to those who feel they are above the law and can do whatever they wish to do or say without consequence. I dare say we’re already in the midst of a time for accounting although the results are not quite as dramatic as we might like to see, but to that, I would recommend patience while keeping our eyes on the growing light, now breaking on the eastern horizon.
Mercury’s Retrograde Midpoint
We’ve now reached the halfway mark of Mercury’s thrice-yearly retrograde in Aries with a number of whacked-out news items to digest, items that will continue to haunt for some time to come. It’s here that Mercury’s orbit brings it between the Sun and the Earth (inferior conjunction), acting as a mouthpiece (Mercury) for those in positions of power and authority (Sun). Due to Mercury’s back-and-forth motion during its retrograde cycle, it will form repeat (square) contacts with Saturn and Mars midweek and then another square to Saturn again on April 25. This would suggest a calling-out with regard to actions, behaviors and words with the need for full accountability on personal as well as collective levels of expression. Chances are good that anything that surfaces this week in this area will be revisited again later this month.
With Mercury retrograde in the impulsive sign of Aries until April 15, the next two weeks will see more public utterances (Mercury) backfiring (retrograde), echoing into the first week in May. As Aries and its analog, Mars are both generally associated with firearms and violence, Mercury’s presence in this sign points to continued argument and outrage over the issues being raised against the NRA and their benefactors, the firearms industry; aided by their pimps in Congress and Fox News, the propaganda arm of the Trump-led GOP. The lights are coming on and the swamp creatures will be seen scurrying for the exits, but alas, will find no place left to hide.
The Week Ahead
Just past the March 31 Full “Blue” Moon in Libra, the coming week falls between the Full Moon and the Moon’s Last Quarter Phase, which will then begin the process of closure on April 8. This means the coming week is the time to put stalled projects into play while also glancing over your shoulder at Mercury retrograde potentially messing with the message. Otherwise, keeping initiatives on track with little in the way of reinvention is the way to go unless you choose to use this time for review and reconsideration of your overall trajectory. If this is the case, a more favorable time to set things in motion will arrive just after April 15 when Mercury ends retrograde and the New Moon opens a fresh cycle in Aries.
Lunar Gardening Report
Following Saturday’s Full Sap Moon in Libra, Sunday through Tuesday are favorable for planting and fertilizing although Sunday would be best for flowering annuals and other ornamentals while the Moon remains in Libra. Monday and Tuesday are considered primo days for planting, transplanting, direct seeding, sprouting and fertilizing with composted materials with the Moon still maintaining light in Scorpio. Wednesday through early afternoon Friday would be better days to weed, cut, clear and work on beds with the Moon in fiery Sagittarius. Friday afternoon through Saturday are your last, best days for planting under the Capricorn Moon where strong root development is the name of the game and before the Moon enters its Last Quarter Phase at daybreak Sunday, a time when we hit the pause button for putting stuff in the ground until April 17.
Daily Forecast (For all signs)
(Times are Eastern Daylight/-0400 UTC)
Sunday, April 1: Easter/April Fools. Aside from the piety and silliness of this combination, today marks the midpoint of Mercury’s retrograde period as its orbit brings it to a point between the Earth and the Sun (Earth-Mercury-Sun). This may coincide with a time of announcements, proclamations and declarations from on-high, words which might need to be reworded or retracted after the fact. On a more personal scale of expression this suggests higher mental functioning and the ability to tightly focus our attention on a single point. Unexpected developments may arise in the early afternoon even as the Moon goes Void-of-Course (VOC) in Libra beginning at 2:30 pm, remaining void until the Moon enters Scorpio at 7:00 pm. Polarity and contrast with regard to tastes and values could emerge later tonight, perhaps providing us with something to be grateful for. Beware of foil-wrapped, chocolate-covered olives hiding in your basket!
Monday, April 2: There could be considerable tension to contend with today as actions and behaviors run up against some form of resistance (Mars conjunct Saturn). Actions carry consequences while it seems likely that the recent call for greater levels of gun (Mars) control (Saturn) reaches a high-water mark. Although there can be some frustration surrounding this aspect, there is also the positive potential for carefully structured activities that are more effective than in a state of unencumbered flow. Focus is the key word here and with the Moon in Scorpio (Mars’ analog sign), we’re encouraged to use the power of intention to set things in a positive direction.
Tuesday, April 3: When it comes to important decisions or agreements, you’ll want to square them away during the morning hours before the Scorpio Moon goes VOC at noon, where it will continue to be void for the remainder of the day. Expansive energies are afoot midday which can either work in your favor or spell-out an overstepping of bounds.
Wednesday, April 4: The potential for misinformation, glitches and breakdowns run high today and tomorrow as Mercury retrograde becomes involved with Mars and Saturn, even as they separate from Monday’s conjunction. There is also a strong potential for impatience, irritation, annoyance, arguments, anger, accidents or violent episodes if the psychic pressure builds to the breaking point. Aside from the obvious cautions, it would pay to choose your words carefully as they could come back to haunt you. Tonight would be a good time for review as the expansive and often opinionated Sagittarius Moon makes a flowing contact with retrograde Mercury, perhaps registering something you might have overlooked earlier in the day.
Thursday, April 5: Yesterday’s forecast also applies today with retrograde Mercury forming a square aspect with Saturn where consequences for any careless actions or words register an impact. Chances are good that anyone being confronted with such things will attempt to evade or lie when the Sagittarius Moon squares Neptune during the morning hours. On another track, retro Mercury square Saturn may coincide with a sense of frustration or futility if one’s feeling ignored, dismissed or overlooked in some way, shape or form. Whatever comes to pass today, there is a strong chance that it will be revisited three weeks from now when Mercury repeats this contact with Saturn. Otherwise, if your path is clear for take-off, much can be accomplished with little fuss with the upbeat Sagittarius Moon in contact with the Aries Sun, lighting a fire.
Friday, April 6: A more philosophical or opinionated frame of mind is indicated up until the early afternoon with the Sagittarius Moon forming softer aspects in the wake of any recent harshness. This then shifts once the Moon enters Capricorn at 2:00 pm and things take a more sober, business-like tone with an emphasis on duty, responsibility and productivity. As all next week will fall within the Moon’s closing phase, this would be a good time to set things into motion that need momentum.
Saturday, April 7: A more mature, if not somber outlook with regard to love, sex and money is likely to dominate with someone having to delineate boundaries or making a budget (Venus trine Saturn). This is then compounded by the Capricorn Moon making a string of alignments throughout the day, pointing to a case of the heavies or fatigue first thing this morning while we catch a second wind in the early afternoon that could also light a fire. Finally, a soft Moon-Neptune contact in the early evening would be excellent for catching a movie or a concert...whatever provides some escape from recent aggravations, easing the frazzled mind.
